Exercise of the Month: Box Jump!

A box jump is quite simply, jumping onto a box. It’s a fantastic exercise for strengthening and toning your lower body, as well as developing your power output. It demands co-ordination, balance and accuracy. You can really test yourself with this exercise, and you’ll feel a great sense of achievement as you see yourself being able to jump higher and higher.

To perform it correctly you will need to select a box or platform that will challenge your jumping ability, but not too challenging that you end up flat on your face! It must also be sturdy enough to withstand continuous, high impact jumps.
 

 
How to do the exercise…

  1. Stand facing the box, with your feet directly under your hips and hands to your sides
  2. Lower yourself into a half squat position (Remember to keep your head up and back straight!)
  3. Using your arms to gain power, jump from the crouched position, landing with soft knees on the centre of the box
  4. Stand tall
  5. Return to the starting position by stepping down, and repeat the exercise
